The meeting focused on the political work at European level like the new EU Anti-Money Laundering package and the European Commission's initiatives on "Upgrading Digital Company Law" and “Vulnerable Adults”. In line with Dr. Peter Stelmaszczyk's political priorities, the CNUE member notariats also discussed how the rule of law and preventive justice in Ukraine can be effectively strengthened within the framework of a "Marshall Plan for Ukraine".
The day before, Dr. Peter Stelmaszczyk had invited to the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the European Notarial Network (ENN), which was also attended by Marie Vautravers, Secretary of the European Judicial Network in Civil and Commercial Matters (EJN), and Prof. Dr. Dirk Staudenmayer, Head of the Digital Transition & Judicial Training Unit of DG Justice of the European Commission. The event provided a great opportunity to review what has been achieved so far and to look towards new projects.
The ENN connects notaries within the EU and provides a forum for transnational professional exchange. It provides information on the law of all member notariats, including real estate law, family law, succession law and company law. In addition, it offers the possibility to contact colleagues in other countries directly with questions on foreign law.
In the past year, the ENN has been particularly active in providing legal assistance to Ukraine. For example, the ENN collected a large amount of specialised information on Ukrainian law and made it available to colleagues in the EU Member States. The ENN also makes a bilingual form available for download free of charge, which enables parents to express their wishes regarding the journey of their child leaving Ukraine and the exercise of parental responsibility. The ENN has also published a Ukraine Crisis Handbook to assist notaries in the EU Member States in their daily work in the notary's office.
All notaries in the EU can use the ENN; registration is free of charge: https://www.enn-rne.eu/
